Purpose
To pray, study and communicate with one another to discover God’s will concerning our family commitment in giving to Generations.
Preparation
- Participate in the daily devotions offered in the Generations’ Prayer & Devotional Guide so that God has the opportunity to prepare every family member.
- Set a time for your family gathering that will be free from distractions. The meeting will likely take 30-60 minutes, depending on the age of your children.
- Instruct every family member to begin thinking of ways to give so the entire family can participate towards God’s work through the Generations’ campaign.
Dates
Hold your family gathering sometime between October 30 and November 3. Commitment weekend is November 4-5.
Leader
Preferably, the head of the household will lead with ALL family members present. Although preferable to have different family members read all the scripture references, the leader needs to locate the scripture references before the gathering begins.

STEP 1. Have the leader pray, inviting God’s presence and leadership in the gathering and asking God to give a spirit of love, unity and generosity. STEP 2. As a family, read and discuss the Bible passages listed below and what they teach about God’s principles for giving.
STEP 3. Compare God’s principles for giving with what the world seems to believe about money. STEP 4. Spend time praying as a family. Let each family member pray sentence prayers:
STEP 5. Ask family members to talk about ways that they, and the family, could give back to God through the Generations’ campaign now and over the next three years. Be sure to include each child so every family member has the opportunity to experience the joy of giving their greatest gift to God. Be sure and write down your family’s ideas. STEP 6. Decide, as a family, what will be given to Generations’ and write it down on the commitment card. (Your commitment card is in your Generations’ Packet.) STEP 7. Close with a prayer of commitment asking God to provide for your family as you step out in faith, asking Him to give you joy in giving and thanking Him for what He has done and for what He will continue to do. |
